I really love my Tesla and would never go back to an ICE vehicle. However, it's feeling like Tesla is not moving forward like they did before and there are a lot of competitors that have really caught my eye. I was really excited for the Cybertruck and I love the technical innovations but the reality is that it's just not a very good truck (IMHO). In contrast, Rivian seems to be doing all the right things.

Rivian Pros:
  • The styling is top notch, understated but still unique.
  • It seems useful as a normal truck. No big wedge shaped bed that impossible to reach over. Useful frunk. Nice.
  • Their new models are really nice and I think will hit a nice price/feature balance. We'll see what happens when you can actually purchase one.
  • Moving to the NACS charging standard and available to use Supercharger locations (Finally!)
Rivian Cons:
  • The software is good but not Tesla good, yet. I'm hopeful they can get it together but doubtful it will ever happen. Does anyone do software as good as Tesla?
  • Service centers are few and far between, even worse than Tesla
  • I want to test drive one but the nearest location is 3 hours away. One of the "locations" seemed to be a used car dealer that just happened to sell Rivan vehicles. WTF?
  • I'm not really an "adventure" person so I'm not sure if Rivian vehicles are for me. I just want a cool EV that can haul stuff around and give me tech good feelings while doing so.

I have a 2023 MYP, and I love it, though I wish it were quieter. The only other car that interests me now is the new M3P, which I think is a better/more fun driving car.

I will likely also never switch back to an ICE Vehicle. But i don't know If its gonna be a Tesla EV, depends on the situation when i will buy a new car. I want my current M3 to last for a while still.

As you said, other competitors have cought up quite a lot, and if i would buy a car today i would look at those other EV Options closely. As far as FSD is not in Europe, competitors can currently deliver the same, if not a larger set of features over here.

We currently have 2 recent cars, a Highland (1 year) and a Z4 (less than 2 years), so I would be looking both at how the likes of Xiaomi evolve (even though I'd avoid Chinese brands) and, especially to replace the roadster, legacy EU producers like BMW, waiting for new ones to pop up with something significant (Lucid, etc.). Currently there is no suitable EV alternative to a convertible other than the Maserati, which seems overkill for my wife's needs.

Oh, I didn't even think about a convertible EV. 🤔 That would really be the sweet spot; cruising around in a super quite car with the top down, enjoying the sunshine. Nice!

You should try the 500 convertible. We rented it in Barcelona, it's fun. There's also the Mini Convertible, never tried but I guess it would be fun as well, basically an electric go-kart. But if I got one of these for my wife, I should change the latter (it was already challenging "downgrading" from the E convertible to the Z4).

We all need to remember that Tesla auto's first priority is driverless vehicles, no steering wheel. Tesla builds EVs of different size and shapes for the public to get to that point. Once that mark is reached the vehicle's size, shape, performance won't matter. There is no human involvement. The only thing that will matter is interior comfort, the car could be a cube for all that matters.

I didn't buy a Tesla for it to be driverless, although I'm conscious we're all squirrels in Elon's machine learning wheel that's preparing the FSD model, regardless.
I did buy Teslas to have a decent electric car, that's all. The moment is becomes humanly undrivable, I don't care how FSD will be efficient.
Also, most of you comment from driving in U.S. roads.
Sure, I tried FSD last time I was in Miami. My 12 year old son could have driven there, probably even better than most drivers there.
Try using FSD in Italy, on the French Riviera, etc. Good luck with "unsupervised", "no steering wheel". It will be a loooong time before anyone in their sane mind will allow a car taking anybody down the 350km that separate Milan from Monaco, Nice, Cannes, etc.

I never really thought of switching to other EV brands because one of my first EVs was a non-Tesla and road trips were basically impossible (but mind you this was 2015), but once we got our first Tesla, the supercharger network allowed me to literally go anywhere, and that’s where I was really sold. Although now that NACS or having access to the supercharging network(or getting access soon) has become native to other brands, I had a list of cars I considered buying last year.

1. Lucid Air Grand Touring
I genuinely thought about getting this car. I see so many of them around town, and the luxury and technology are very much like a Tesla but with the real luxury behind it. And the range was impeccable: 520 miles (836 km)!! The things I didn’t like about this car are that I wasn’t attracted to it; it looked cool, kind of like a spaceship, but overall it’s kind of ugly, and I wasn’t sure if I would regret it or not.

2. Rivian R1S&R1T
I love Rivian, and I love seeing them around town, and I’m a very outdoorsy person, so I like to go on hikes and camp and do some light off-roading, so the Rivians would have been a great option for me. The one thing about me, though, is that my time is very valuable to me (as I’m sure it is to many), so just to begin the process of wanting a test drive (like @RNHurt mentioned), it was more than 3 hours away. And it’s not like I live in the middle of nowhere; I live in Southern California, which you would think they would have all kinds of locations. It just concerned me that the closest way to a dealership or service center was hours away when I live less than 1 minute away from my Tesla dealer.

3. Hummer EV
I was really smitten over the Hummer EV for a while there, and I considered it, but overall the one thing that I didn’t like was the absolutely gigantic battery that was under the floor. 250 kWh?? The thought of charging that at my home and how much it cost was too much to bear. And it did make me sad because I really did love it, but the whole purpose of buying an EV (in my situation) is not having a worry about gas prices, and my Powerwalls and solar would never be able to keep up with charging the Hummer, so then it would start pulling from the grid. And even with 2 EVs, my home hasn’t pulled from the grid in probably a year and a half. And even though my hospital that I work at has free charging and I’m there for 10+, my car often gets unplugged after a few hours because people are just disrespectful, and even when I got a lock for the adapter so you couldn’t just pull it out there is a switch that turns off all the chargers so when people can’t unplug my car they just turn off the chargers and drive away.

I'm kinda afraid to ask what happened. I'm not normally into politics but I'm particularly not into the current administration and am trying to avoid seeing anything about it right now. 🤮
I won't post the photo, but he gave the post-inauguration rally crowd at the Capitol Center Arena not one but two gestures that were identical to a popular German N/a/z/i salute. Media says he was "giving his heart to the crowd" or it was some "Roman salute". Who knows what is real anymore but Jeebus?

Ok, yes I saw the photo / video clip. OMG! That is horrific!

If only the Tesla board had some <CENSORED> and could kick him out. I think Tesla would be much better off without him. I think we all would be much better off without him at this point. As a (very tiny) stockholder I intend to speak my mind at the next vote.

Well to be honest, his support to Trump is the horrific part.
The salute wasn't really what it's believed it was. He's just a tad "autistic" (Asperger), it was his own awkward way of giving the heart.
Otherwise as a roman salute it would really feel twice as awkward, and I can say it as a native Italian.
I wish people focused more on the dangers of this administration and less on... this.

No doubt a 💩 show ahead. Selfishly, I don’t want my car vandalized bc of Asperger Elon. Another clip had him either tripping balls on Ketamine or stimming. Dude is beyond weird.

I agree to the statement that the administration part and support for trump is the worse part. Man, i wish we could all drive our teslas without having a politics fanatics as the CEO of the company... As RNHurt said, we would be better off without him, Tesla can handle this. Lets hope for the best
