I am still within the first year of ownership of our first EV, which is a 2024 Tesla Model 3 LR, which we took delivery of in April 2024. Currently, I don't see any reason to go for anything else as this does basically everything I expect a vehicle to do for me, and then some. But that could change by the time we plan on getting rid of the car, which could be up to 7 to 10 years from now. The way we see it, Tesla is like the iPhone or rather the Apple of EVs. They are simplistic but reliable and easy to live with. But as far as other brands that we are keeping a close eye on, are Rivian, Hyundai, Mercedes, BMW, and some Chinese brands. However, that last one is likely still a while away from arriving in the US in any meaningful way. The Chinese do seem to be far ahead of the rest of the world in EVs, and charging infrastructure, which is what really interests me. Especially the charging infrastructure part. Hopefully within the next 5 years, we will see not only more DC fast charging options, but significantly more level 2 fast charging locations in other popular areas. I don't always need to charge up superfast, and sometimes I would prefer to charge more slowly and be able to enjoy a restaurant, theater, or other shopping/entertainment.
