I really love my Tesla and would never go back to an ICE vehicle. However, it's feeling like Tesla is not moving forward like they did before and there are a lot of competitors that have really caught my eye. I was really excited for the Cybertruck and I love the technical innovations but the reality is that it's just not a very good truck (IMHO). In contrast, Rivian seems to be doing all the right things.

Rivian Pros:
  • The styling is top notch, understated but still unique.
  • It seems useful as a normal truck. No big wedge shaped bed that impossible to reach over. Useful frunk. Nice.
  • Their new models are really nice and I think will hit a nice price/feature balance. We'll see what happens when you can actually purchase one.
  • Moving to the NACS charging standard and available to use Supercharger locations (Finally!)
Rivian Cons:
  • The software is good but not Tesla good, yet. I'm hopeful they can get it together but doubtful it will ever happen. Does anyone do software as good as Tesla?
  • Service centers are few and far between, even worse than Tesla
  • I want to test drive one but the nearest location is 3 hours away. One of the "locations" seemed to be a used car dealer that just happened to sell Rivan vehicles. WTF?
  • I'm not really an "adventure" person so I'm not sure if Rivian vehicles are for me. I just want a cool EV that can haul stuff around and give me tech good feelings while doing so.

I have a 2023 MYP, and I love it, though I wish it were quieter. The only other car that interests me now is the new M3P, which I think is a better/more fun driving car.

I will likely also never switch back to an ICE Vehicle. But i don't know If its gonna be a Tesla EV, depends on the situation when i will buy a new car. I want my current M3 to last for a while still.

As you said, other competitors have cought up quite a lot, and if i would buy a car today i would look at those other EV Options closely. As far as FSD is not in Europe, competitors can currently deliver the same, if not a larger set of features over here.

We currently have 2 recent cars, a Highland (1 year) and a Z4 (less than 2 years), so I would be looking both at how the likes of Xiaomi evolve (even though I'd avoid Chinese brands) and, especially to replace the roadster, legacy EU producers like BMW, waiting for new ones to pop up with something significant (Lucid, etc.). Currently there is no suitable EV alternative to a convertible other than the Maserati, which seems overkill for my wife's needs.

Oh, I didn't even think about a convertible EV. 🤔 That would really be the sweet spot; cruising around in a super quite car with the top down, enjoying the sunshine. Nice!

You should try the 500 convertible. We rented it in Barcelona, it's fun. There's also the Mini Convertible, never tried but I guess it would be fun as well, basically an electric go-kart. But if I got one of these for my wife, I should change the latter (it was already challenging "downgrading" from the E convertible to the Z4).

We all need to remember that Tesla auto's first priority is driverless vehicles, no steering wheel. Tesla builds EVs of different size and shapes for the public to get to that point. Once that mark is reached the vehicle's size, shape, performance won't matter. There is no human involvement. The only thing that will matter is interior comfort, the car could be a cube for all that matters.

I didn't buy a Tesla for it to be driverless, although I'm conscious we're all squirrels in Elon's machine learning wheel that's preparing the FSD model, regardless.
I did buy Teslas to have a decent electric car, that's all. The moment is becomes humanly undrivable, I don't care how FSD will be efficient.
Also, most of you comment from driving in U.S. roads.
Sure, I tried FSD last time I was in Miami. My 12 year old son could have driven there, probably even better than most drivers there.
Try using FSD in Italy, on the French Riviera, etc. Good luck with "unsupervised", "no steering wheel". It will be a loooong time before anyone in their sane mind will allow a car taking anybody down the 350km that separate Milan from Monaco, Nice, Cannes, etc.
