Tesla App Code Reveals FSD Referral Rewards Are Coming

Tesla may soon reward owners for getting more people to try Full Self-Driving (Supervised). Code found in Tesla app version 4.62.0 (and later) points to an upcoming FSD referral program that would give you free FSD time when someone subscribes using your link.

How FSD Referrals Would Work

According to the new code, owners who refer others to an FSD subscription would earn a free month, or possibly several months, of FSD. You’d be able to apply the reward to any vehicle on your Tesla account.

Several new phrases in the app show how the process would work. One prompt reads “If someone subscribes with your link, pick which vehicle gets the reward,” while another asks you to “Confirm Vehicle for Reward.” There’s also a new line that says “Select the vehicle you’d like to apply the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) trial to,” which suggests the referral rewards will be classified as free FSD trials.

Tesla has also added front and back images of an FSD referral “coin,” which will likely appear in the app when you successfully refer someone.

A New Way to Encourage FSD Adoption

This isn’t Tesla’s first attempt at getting more drivers to try FSD. Last year, it launched FSD gift cards that covered a month of FSD (plus tax). Referral rewards take a different approach by giving existing subscribers a reason to spread the word, with free FSD time as the payoff.

Subscription numbers are already climbing. During its Q3 2026 earnings call last week, Tesla said FSD has hit a record 1.74 million subscribers, and 75% of new vehicle orders in North America now include a paid subscription. As FSD reaches more countries, referrals could help push those numbers even higher.

No Launch Date Yet

Tesla hasn’t said when FSD referral rewards will launch, but the assets are already in the app, so it may not be far off.

The same app update also added official support for iPad, iPhone Duo, and Android tablets and foldables, and Tesla has since brought the same big-screen support to its Robotaxi app. We’ll keep an eye on future app updates for more details on how many free months each referral will earn.
