DeLorean has been showing up in Tesla’s corner of X lately. Ahead of Tesla’s Roadster reveal, the official DeLorean Labs account has been replying to Tesla-related posts, praising Tesla, drawing comparisons between the two brands’ designs, and teasing its own upcoming EV.
When we shared our breakdown of the next-generation Roadster reveal event scheduled for Thursday, October 15, DeLorean Labs replied, “Is that a DeLorean?” After we asked what a DeLorean EV would hypothetically look like, the account said, “Just you wait,” offering “much respect to @Tesla for everything they have done for the EV industry” before adding that “they sure love DeLorean design language.”
Just you wait:) much respect to @Tesla for everything they have done for the EV industry. But they sure love DeLorean design language. We can’t blame them😎

Tesla and DeLorean’s Shared Design Language
DeLorean has a point. The original DMC-12 from 1981 was known for its unpainted stainless steel body, sharp wedge shape, and gullwing doors. The Cybertruck’s stainless steel exterior and angular lines echo that look, while the Model X’s Falcon Wing doors are a modern take on the gullwing.
DeLorean Labs also played along with Tesla’s Roadster countdown. When Tesla announced the event would stream live this Thursday, Elon Musk wrote, “Timing is everything,” and DeLorean Labs answered with, “Time is on your side!”
DeLorean Teases Its EV and Flying Cars
The account is also teasing its own plans. The Alpha5, an electric four-seater with gullwing doors, was unveiled in May 2022 and was originally slated to enter production in 2024. That hasn’t happened yet. When a fan asked about it, DeLorean Labs replied, “News coming soon,” noting that it takes time to bring a car to production and inviting fans to DM for news on its flying car and the Alpha5.
The flying car part isn’t just talk. DeLorean has teamed up with Airspeeder, a racing series for electric flying cars, to launch the DeLorean Airspeeder Team USA.
It’s time to take DeLorean to the sky. 🇺🇸

Introducing DeLorean Airspeeder Team USA, racing at the pinnacle of flying car motorsport.
For 40 years, the world has imagined a DeLorean in the sky.
Now, that vision is taking flight. 🚀@airspeederHQ https://t.co/3QxB4wuIUD pic.twitter.com/xbiEYeJEEU
Flying cars are on Tesla’s mind too. When Musk replied “You will get flying cars” to a post in August, DeLorean Labs chimed in with “Ya they will!” Musk has long hinted the Roadster’s SpaceX thruster package could let it “fly,” and has promised the reveal will be “unforgettable.” We think the Roadster’s big surprise could involve driving upside down.
Tesla’s Back to the Future Easter Egg
Tesla has paid tribute to DeLorean before. Its old app included a Back to the Future easter egg triggered by tapping the battery icon when your car had exactly 121 miles of range. It renamed the car OUTATIME, showed 1.21 GW of power, and booked a service appointment for November 5, 1955. The easter egg disappeared with Tesla’s 2021 app redesign, but you can still grab our Back to the Future OUTATIME license plate for your car’s visualization.
With Tesla’s Roadster reveal on Thursday and DeLorean promising Alpha5 news soon, both brands could have more to show before the end of the year.
