I have no doubt that BYD (and other China manufacturers) are going to eat our lunch when it comes to EVs. I think only Tesla really stands a chance against them to provide general purpose EVs. Ford, Chevy, VW, etc. have a very long, steep hill to climb and I'm not sure they'll make it. Specialty manufacturers probably don't have to worry to much; there will always be someone willing to purchase a Porsche or Ferrari.

The big three will resort to badging the Chinese companies cars as their own, like they did with Mitsubishi and Geo IIRC.

Bold prediction from someone who knows nothing or even less about the biz .

Hmmm... that may be the case, but does that mean that Ford, Chevy, etc. win or does it merely delay their death?

Honestly, I'm not sure the respective governments would actually let their automakers fail. Would Germany let VW fail? We've already seen the lengths that the US government would go to to keep GM, Chrysler, etc. stable. Why would this "crisis" be any different?
