6 meters is a very small radius. “Harsh restrictions“ is definitely not exaggerating. But at least this is a step to FINALLY get FSD (Hands-free, I hope)and 75+ meters of range for A.S.S. In the hands of our friends in Europe! :)

Well as it is said in the post, this will be not useful anyways because who walks beside the car constantly while using this feature. I already know that i will still only use summon to get it out of my narrow garage :D You probably get looked at weirdly when you take your car for a walk with you xD

Edit: But maybe the improvements of Dummon (Dumb Summon) will make it a better experience. It currently aborts most of the time because of a curb it needs to get up to get into my garage. And it also just cant center itself properly when reverse summoning into the garage. I need to set up the angle perfecly for it to hit the tight gap. Lets see!

Well thinking about it, it's not that there is no use. For instance, I always call the garage where I leave my M3 upfront so that they can get it ready for me to pick it up. Thinking ahead, if I could summon the car, and I'm just 100 meters away across the street, it wouldn't be stupid at all. The question is... really having to trust the car exit a garage, go on a ramp, cross a congested road with a left turn on a pedestrian crossing, and find a suitable spot in front of my house, waiting for me. Mumble. All while I'm legally responsible for whatever she does.
For instance, we should be able to turn on emergency lights to signal the car stopping in the road without being fully parked.

But you would have to walk along with your car, you can't summon it from 100 meters away here in Europe, this is due to regulations limiting this range. Or am i wrong on this? If its the same distance limitation as we have now, i cant even be 3 steps away from the car and it gets unsure and doesnt want to continue driving sadly

Correct, I'll try to summon it from the other side of the road for the sake of trying it and see what happens.

I was just imagining what real use case it could have, other than trying to mock the 80s Knight Rider TV series, as many of the other crazy sci-fi suggestions that Elon tried to bring to life. I'm interested in seeing how it would behave in highly congested areas, where sometimes you have to back off and "negotiate" with other cars, giving way to them rather than going forward. In such case I can only imagine the frustration of having to run to your own car, as it was a stubborn kid (or mule) and having to fix the mess yourself.

Sounds dangerous to use summon to let it drive across public streets, i will await your report on this eagerly :D

Well if you think about it should be no more dangerous than using unsupervised FSD or the Robotaxi, for that matter. Especially in the latter, where you have no human control at all. Anything less than that, it would be just a useless and irrelevant party trick, like lightshows. Useful at best for lazy people not being able to walk their grocery cart to the car or for unexpected rainy days.

The "congestioned" case I mentioned was not even meant to be on a "public street". We have a summer house in a residence uphill, and was thinking what would happen if I summoned the car to the door, while another car was leaving.

Ah i see, interesting. Tell me if you were able to test it!

I have to be honest, when A.S.S. came out even though the reviews of it were stellar, I still had major trepidations because with (not actually) smart summon it had almost crashed into a parked car. So I was extremely nervous about trying A.S.S. But once I kept trying it in non-busy areas I slowly started to trust it more and more and now whenever I go somewhere I will use it 90% of the time. The only times I have had trouble using it is during “the golden hour”, that’s when I get a lot of disengagements because of the sun. So before I wouldn’t even use summon without a direct line if slight with no cars even in the general vicinity, to now I get upset when the range isn’t farther lol. So genuinely I am very excited for all of you to be able to try it (when you don’t have to be so close) because I do think it exceeds expectations. It certainly did mine!

Unfortunately we have to wait until the EU approves being more distant to the vehicle when using summon. As long as its 6 meters maximum distance from the car, its like taking your dog for a walk instead you walk your car XD Looking forward to it tho, as i watched many videos from the U.S. where i saw how good this works already!

Update: Yesterday i got 2024.44.3.1 and what can i say - it completely broke my Dumb Summon Feature! I can't get it out of my garage anymore because the car claims i am on public roads! Unbelievable, i was aware of that restriction before but in my garage it never claimed that it is on public roads... Now it does, which is wrong, its my parking garage... I will make a claim and hope this gets fixed

I was able to restore half of the functionality - it can pull out of the garage again at least, but pulling into it from outside is still not possible anymore because it seems to be "to close to public roads". Lets see if this will be adressed, its no major dealbreaker but, you know, when something just stops working after an update its never good :D
