So, I have a 2020 MX with FSD. Can I purchase a new Standard Range MX, get the federal tax incentives, and transfer my FSD to the new MX? 🤔 If so, I might be able to pull off a lateral upgrade (almost) to a brand new car.

@RNHurt - I think an S or X is over that cost threshold. The FSD thing would work. I was contemplating a similar move with my 2020 Y. In my case part of the calculation is what I owe on the current Y and how much registration will go up on the new Y. AZ had $25/yr registration for EVs ( or something that low). If I get a new Y the cost goes up to like $890! I also may not qualify for the whole tax credit as I don't make that much money. Then there's getting it tinted, ceramic coated, badges de-chromed... it all adds up. A 2020 X is a pretty good one to have!
Is this move considered a 'demand lever' for the S&X? Seems like they are both such a small % of the cars Tesla sells.

I really do like my 2020 MX but some of the quirks are just annoying. I LOVED the A/C system in the 2020 MY; everything from the heat pump to the automatic dashboard louvers. The 2020 MX has neither of those niceties. Plus the newer MXs (and all the MY/M3) are getting all the good updates; steering wheel functions, warmer display colors, blind spot cameras, camera view on the app, etc.)

I don't know, sometimes I just miss the "future" feel of the MY. Then again, my wife likes the "normal" feel in the 2020 MX and says that she would much rather drive it than the spaceship that is the MY. 🤷‍♂️

I see there is reporting that the new models are software locked. While stupid in some ways it raises my eyebrows because in AZ and I'm sure many other states the registration fees are based on the value of the car. So if one could buy that standard range and later pay $10k to unlock the rest of the battery and presumably the performance associated with it that would save a nice chunk on registration :) .
Sadly that's still out of my range.

Just a FYI for you. I just traded my 2021 Performance for a new 2023 X . I transfered my FSD but the new X has Hardware 4.0 and is NOT supported. I asked Notateslaapp to put an article on the home page so people know.

Not supported as in the FSD wouldn't transfer?

FSD is not supported with hardware 4.
So people buying FSD or people.taking advantage of transferring FSD right now don't have access to FSD or enhanced auto drive.

Not supported at this time? That is- the current public FSD build isn't up to the new hardware? I can see that happening. Thanks for the head's up, I'd say it's worth the wait!
