I rarely use the power outlets of my M3, but when i do, i use it to power my mobile tire pressure device on the 12V Socket. The lack of having accessory power while away from the vehicle never bothered me, but nice to know that its possible now, maybe it will come in handy one day :)

It's nice to have the option, given the lack of real connectivity provided from the car - and, surprisingly, the car itself asking for external connectivity for its own updates. Would be actually great having it remotely activated via the app, so we can leave a mobile router inside the car and turn it on selectively.

Having it bundled together with sentry mode was just stupid, so nice of Tesla for really reading the forums :)

Ever since they made that change last year my Model S hasn’t been recording sentry videos consistently since in the Legacy vehicles you plug the usb to record in the center console 12v which now gets disabled. Hopefully this option will make that work consistently again. I had someone sent my car that I got recorded on sentry and a week later it stopped working due to that update. With all the nonsense vandalism happening against Teslas, sentry mode working is really important.

That's true but it shouldn't have been the case that the USB key wasn't powered upon sentry event either.

We were talking about the lack of constant power, not intermittent/on sentry demand.

Yes, I agree... it should have always been an option to keep USB active regardless of sentry was enabled or not, I was nearly pointing out that that disabling the 12V functionality even with Sentry enabled, broke sentry recordings consistently on Legacy models. I'm all for keeping access to the 12v even if sentry is disabled (though I hope its an option like.... the following)

12v active: (Never), (Only with Sentry Enabled) , (Always)
It could also be controlled by location... eg: its generally unnecessary to keep the 12v active when you're at home since most users would use it for camping... or have it also tied to camp mode.
