Tesla to offer three new paint colors

By Nuno Cristovao

Tesla fans have been asking for new vehicle colors for years now and while Tesla does occasionally make minor changes every once in a while, they rarely offer new colors.

Recently, Elon has confirmed that Tesla will be offering new colors in the future, but hasn't given any details on what colors or how many new color choices there will be. Giga Berlin is creating a new paint shop and they will be presumably the first to offer these new colors. Elon called Giga Berlin's paint shop the "most advanced," offering "more layers and stunning colors that subtly change with curvature."

We now have some new information on the possible new colors that will be offered. Twitter user, @Tesla_App_iOS noticed that there were new color names added in the recent Tesla app update, version 4.2.1.

These are likely the new colors that Tesla will be offering. If the new colors are being incorporated into the app now, we should expect them to be available fairly soon.

The new color names are Deep Crimson Multicoat, Abyss Blue Multicoat and Mercury Silver Metallic.

Elon has previously stated that his favorite Tesla paint color is Deep Crimson. Elon drives a Tesla Model S in what appears to be a deep crimson color, so it's possible that the new Deep Crimson Multicoat will look something similar to this color.

Recent visitors to Giga Berlin also spotted these new colors. The photos are unfortunately from further away, making it difficult to tell, but you can tell that these are new colors and match up with the color names that appear in the app.

We should find out more soon about these new paint colors, the models they'll be available on and whether there will be a premium for these new shades.

Tesla Brings Back FSD Transfer; Offers 0% Financing With FSD Purchase

By Karan Singh
Not a Tesla App

Tesla has brought back its FSD transfer offer once again after its We, Robot event. If you already own a Tesla and are planning to buy another one, this is a fantastic opportunity to transfer FSD to your new car.

In addition to that, Tesla has also turned on another interesting offer - 0% financing with FSD, as well as another $0 down option.

FSD Transfer

This time, the transfer period is available for any orders placed on or after October 10th and delivered before December 31st. This offer is currently valid for anyone taking delivery of a new Model S, Model 3, Model X, or Model Y.

While the Non-Foundation Series Cybertrucks are now being configured, this offer appears to exclude the vehicle at this time. If you’re purchasing a non-FS Cybertruck and want to transfer your FSD, we recommend reaching out to your Tesla delivery coordinator through the app to determine if this is possible.

For those receiving the Foundation Series, FSD is included, so the transfer offer is not available. This particular promotion is available in all markets, including North America, Europe, China, Australia, and other markets.

0% Financing

Tesla is now offering 0% financing if you purchase FSD with your vehicle and are approved for the purchase. The catch is that you’ll need to add FSD to your vehicle purchase instead of transferring it. With Tesla’s interest rates hovering around 5-6%, this is a great deal, as you can amortize both the cost of the vehicle and FSD out to 72 months. A loan for $46k at 5.29% over six years would result in almost $8,000 in interest, more than the cost of FSD.

There are a few fine lines though. This is only available in the United States, not anywhere else in the world. In addition, you need to come up with a 15% down payment (which includes the $7,500 USD Federal EV Tax Rebate). This offer is only available on the Model 3 and Model Y - The Model X, Model S, and Cybertruck are not eligible for this offer.

$0 Down

Tesla is also offering $0 down in the United States, for those who qualify for both financing (at 5.29% APR), and the Federal EV Rebate. Essentially, the $7,500 rebate covers your down payment. Once again, this option is only for the Model 3 and Model Y in the United States.

Tesla has been making a push to increase sales and FSD's take-rate. The 0% offer is a great way to increase FSD’s take-rate, as for anything other than the Model 3 RWD LR with short (36mo) financing plans, you’ll actually end up saving money overall due to the 0% financing.

If you’re interested in picking up a new Tesla, now appears to be a great time to do it.

Tesla Shows Off Wireless Charging Dock and Vehicle UI [VIDEO]

Tesla showed previews of its upcoming wireless charging system at We, Robot. The slides were out of view on the live stream (at the 16:35 mark), but attendees managed to capture what was on screen.

We previously looked at Tesla's patent on Wireless Charging, as well as the fact that FSD will support automatic docking for the Wireless Charger, but this time, let’s look at what Tesla actually has to show.

Wireless Charging

On the slides, Tesla showed off the actual wireless charger - which seems to be a large square with a cable coming out of the back. Overall, it looks like a simplistically designed and functional object, is easy to keep clean, and ensures it's in the right spot for alignment purposes.

But on the next slide, Tesla showed off some interesting information. For context, the Level II Wall Connector that Tesla currently sells runs at 48 amps, at 240 volts. That puts out 11.5kW of power for the car to charge off of - with an approximately 99.33% efficiency, depending on the distance between your wall connector and service box.

The wireless charger is likely running at an even higher amperage - we estimate approximately 80+ amps at 240 volts - to put out a jaw-dropping 20+kW to the vehicle. 100 amps is usually the next service level after the 60 amp service level, and with a 20% amperage loss for electrical codes, an 80 amp charger may be in line.

Tesla has said before that its wireless charging system would be very efficient, but it's not clear yet how efficient it will be. However, knowing that remembering to charge is one of the mainstream obstacles in EV adoption, an automated, wireless charging solution would likely help EV adoption and give Tesla an advantage over the competition.

Tesla may have cracked the nut on wireless vehicle charging here - and the Cybertruck is the first of their consumer vehicles that has the ability to get a retrofit for wireless charging. We’re excited to see what Tesla has up their sleeves on this front.

In the meantime, check out this video by Robert Rosenfeld of Tesla’s short segment on wireless charging.
