Tesla’s New FSD Referral Program Is Live: How It Works

FSD subscribers who refer someone can earn a free month and owners who bought it get $99 in credit, while Tesla retires its U.S. vehicle referral program.

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) referral program is officially live in the U.S. Tesla announced it on X, inviting owners to “Refer friends & family to gift them a month of FSD Supervised” and get a free month of their own in return.

The launch comes just days after we found references to FSD referral rewards in the Tesla app code. At the same time, Tesla is ending its vehicle referral program in the U.S.

How FSD Referrals Work

According to Tesla’s support page, you need an active FSD (Supervised) subscription or an outright FSD purchase to refer someone. Owners who got FSD through a one-year grant aren’t eligible. You’ll also need Tesla app version 4.62.0 or later.

When you share your link, the person you refer gets a one-month FSD (Supervised) trial, if they’re eligible. If they subscribe during that trial, you earn a reward:

  • Subscribers get one free month of FSD (Supervised).

  • Owners who bought FSD outright get a $99 Tesla Credit toward eligible purchases.

That second option exists because Tesla ended one-time FSD purchases earlier this year, so a free subscription month isn’t worth anything for owners who already have FSD for life.

You can earn rewards up to 12 times per calendar year, and the limit resets on January 1. Rewards show as “pending” in the app until the Grant Date, and each one expires 12 months after that. Unlike the old vehicle referral program, which only worked for first-time buyers, FSD referrals can go to existing Tesla owners too.

Sending a Referral

To share your link, tap the menu in the Tesla app in the top-right corner, and select Refer and Earn. Then tap Share Your Link, and pick a contact to send it to.

The referral section also has a new layout, with three tabs along the bottom for FSD referrals, solar referrals, and your referral history.

Goodbye, Vehicle Referrals

Vehicle referrals are no longer available in the U.S. In its most recent version, the vehicle referral program gave referrers up to $250 in Tesla Credits and gave buyers three free months of FSD (Supervised).

The shift makes sense given how much Tesla is betting on FSD. During its Q3 2026 earnings call, Tesla said FSD hit a record 1.74 million subscribers, and 75% of new vehicle orders in North America now include a paid subscription. Referrals give current subscribers a reason to get friends and family to try it, and those numbers could climb further as FSD launches in more countries.

The program is U.S.-only for now. With FSD now approved in 18 countries (and counting), it’d make sense for Tesla to bring referrals to other markets once FSD subscriptions there pick up.
