Tesla is Delaying Some Model Y L Orders in the U.S.

Some U.S. Model Y L buyers who ordered shortly after launch are seeing deliveries pushed back months, while others are already getting their six-seaters.

Some Tesla Model Y L buyers in the U.S. are waiting longer than expected for their new six-seat crossover. Customers who ordered months ago, around when Tesla first opened orders, are now seeing their delivery dates pushed back.

One of our readers told us they were supposed to take delivery in mid-October, but their date has been “pushed out 3 to 4 months.” We’ve also seen several posts online from other buyers in the same situation.

Some Model Y L Deliveries Pushed Into 2027

Tesla launched the Model Y L in the U.S. in early July, starting with a $61,990 Launch Series trim. At the time, first deliveries were slated to begin in September, and early orders showed delivery windows of September to October.

Those estimates have since slipped. New Model Y L Launch Series orders in the U.S. now show estimated delivery dates of January to March 2027 for all configurations, up from January to February. Some customers who have already placed orders are even seeing February to April 2027.

Others Are Already Taking Delivery

Not everyone is waiting, though. Owner @cscarroll took delivery of one of the first Launch Series vehicles in South Florida last week, trading in a 2022 Model X. He noted a “smoother and quieter ride,” upgraded seats, and better air conditioning than his 2025 Model Y.

It’s not clear why some orders are being delayed while others are being delivered. Tesla hasn’t commented, but supply or production constraints in the U.S. are possible explanations. The Model Y L is a pretty big departure from the regular Model Y, after all, complete with a longer wheelbase.

The Tesla Model Y L: A Refresher

The Model Y L is Tesla’s first true three-row, six-seat Model Y. It’s 7 inches longer than the standard Model Y, with second-row captain’s chairs, a powered third row and an adaptive suspension tuned for comfort. It also brings premium cabin features, including some of Tesla’s most advanced climate controls.

Despite its size, it’s still quick, with a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. It’s also more efficient than the standard Model Y, with up to 328 miles of EPA-estimated range, and it beat its range estimates in real-world testing.

The North American Model Y L differs from the China-built version in a few ways. For example, it doesn’t have Tesla’s actively cooled 50-watt wireless phone chargers, though Tesla has confirmed those will come later.

If you have a Model Y L on order, keep an eye on your Tesla account for updated delivery dates. Until Tesla explains the delays, it’s unclear whether launch-era orders will move back up or stay pushed into next year.
