I *wish* I could afford a new S at some point but most likely that isn’t in my future. Which reminds me- gotta check my lottery tickets.
Still, I can dream and maybe lust after a nicer car again. Which got me thinking what’s next for the S. Since the internet seems to be a place to make baseless predictions I thought this is a good place to do just that. Maybe this is me saying what I think the cars need before a refresh.
It’s pretty obvious that the front light bar is the new T on the front of the car. So is that on its way to the S & X? Prolly. Maybe. Styling choices aren’t what I’m after here. I’m thinking about things like advances in tech.
So, IMO the new S and X (assuming they both survive on the current platform, I’d love to see a cyber X based on the CT) SHOULD have - higher energy density / safer battery pack. So all of these- longer range, safer cells, better cooling allowing longer charging at peak rates, higher peak rates. I’m thinking a EPA range rating of about 450 for the S and 400 for the X. Longer range means less SC use. Faster charging means less SC use. Wins for everyone.
The new S & X should also debut AI5. I’m sure there are some safety improvements that can be made as well but I have no ideas on what that would be. Also even better heat rejection, noise mitigation, all round creature comforts For the cabin. Whatever the standard is in ‘luxury‘ rides these days. All these improvements and more while NOT adding weight to the car, maybe even dropping a few pounds. The opportunity for a launch edition is there again, so why not?
Oh, and a turn signal stalk because people cling onto what they know. This refresh should be about efficiency, comfort and safety.

The S is still one of my favorite cars on the planet and I miss it so much 😫. I would love to see a redesign but at the same time I love the way it looks now. If a new S came out even remotely close to any of your predictions I might have to trade in one (or both) of my cars 🤦🏽‍♂️.
