It was told since Model Y 2021 Tesla is technically able to allow a bi directionally usage of the internal battery system?
Since last November these technology is allowed in good old Germany, when will Tesla spent a software update to allow this to his users?

As far as i know, there is no plan from tesla to ever make that possible for their already sold cars (cybertruck maybe). I think that would require extra electrical components in the car too.

Hi Joe, as far as I know Tesla modell Y and 3 already have the correct teaching inside. Its only blocked by software!

And how would you connect it to the grid? Where does the AC conversion happen? Those are questions that need to be asked beforehand, Tesla Vehicles are not really made for bidirectional use.

E3DC already use a new typ wallbox for those cases, as well some other manufacturers of wallboxes. A US technician showed the possibility 2021 already on YouTube. I´l try to find his description.

Even if it would work technically, i would not want to use it as the battery would degenerate faster over time, making a replacement neccessary in a shorter time. Also, the cars internal system and BMS would have to be on the entire time, which consumes about 200 Watts of Power constantly, the car could never sleep during the night. Also, whenever you need to drive the car at night, your house would still need access to grid power if you want to avoid outages when no sun is on. But thats just my opinion on this. If it is useful for your purposes, go on, maybe Tesla will open this at some time in the future.

Where i live, the price €/kwh for electricity is quite low so for me a home battery anyways would have no advantage at the moment. I get 0,13€/kwh for feeding to grid and pay only 0,11€/kwh to buy it back from the grid (at least at night). When this changes, i might consider a PowerWall, but still do not want to use the vehicle for that. This also makes me rather feed the energy from the PV to the grid instead of charging the car with it. Currently i only charge at night from the grid, which is kinda weird but makes sense for me :D

Greetings Joe

I guess this is a complex point, you are lucky with such low price on AC. In germany we are living much higher on these issue. Price here is 38 ct/kwh but you have to pay fees for updating all the ac infrastructure so the average is over 60 ct/kwh. I agree with you on the risk for the battery but some manufacturers solved this issue and found it workable. The bi directional use is not driven by the general usage for a house, it is in my view a security issue in case of my personal security ac system doesn´t have enough power to support the house more then a day, we could use the car battery as a security update in blackout case. Even we are able to load the car on external charger and transfer ac to our house. Means the use is much more broader then only download some battery energy it is a question of energy management in special cases!

Interesting! Thanks for sharing the article. This indeed seems to hint at compatibility for V2G.
