Yes, I’d expect as it gets more feature rich then FSD will be more expensive. Are you thinking they’ll leave an ‘supervised‘ version as well as AP and the unsupervised version? Like EAP?
I will argue that a car that literally drives itself (that is when unsupervised FSD actually happens, or if it does) is probably worth quite a bit more than another $8k. At that point insurance should be included, right? Interesting times ahead.
I agree that it will continue to get more feature rich, but I also believe that on the contrary, it should become less expensive over time. Once the FSD model has been trained and performs well on the tasks it needs to perform, I don't believe it needs to be trained again. Unless the intent is to improve it further or to add a new feature/behaviour.
To your question about the number of versions they will have. I do believe they will still have regular AP for those who choose not to purchase or subscribe to any of the FSD models. It is likely that they will have both supervised and unsupervised FSD models out at the same time, especially since it gives them more revenue than having a single version. My question to this end would be, will regular AP stay the same? Or will it adopt some FSD features as we go forward? Or will AP eventually disappear and FSD broken down into 'packages' of separate features that you can pay for?
Lastly, I agree that FSD is a very valuable feature, especially if you plan on using it commercially as an individual or business. However, I would argue that at what point is it not worth it, if FSD is half the value of the vehicle you are purchasing. For example, supervised FSD currently costs $8,000 USD to fully purchase, does this mean that unsupervised FSD should costs double or triple? If it costs somewhere in the range of $20,000 USD, and a Model 3 long range RWD is near $40,000 USD without rebates. What does that mean for an individual who only plans to use unsupervised FSD for personal use? Does this mean that the vehicle now costs $60,000 USD? At that point would it not make more sense to just purchase a Model S for example? Or a higher trim of the Model 3?
I have a lot of questions regarding FSD and how they plan on moving forward with their pricing models. I don't believe FSD should be free, but I am also of the opinion that it should be widely and easily accessible. I guess we will see what their plans are as we get closer to the summer, and what they do in China, seeing as FSD has more competition in China than in the US or other countries.
