Huh, so no sunglasses support or merged stack but still calling it 12.5? I wonder what that means? Maybe just catching all those versions up to the latest build?

Ok, so just got home from a trip now using 12.5. To say the least it was a miserable drive. Even though I was paying full attention all of the time, I was getting nagged what seemed like every 30 seconds to pay attention. Second Major issue was that the speed was constantly drifting downward no matter if I was in auto set speed, manual set, or even if I was around traffic. Also when entering reduced speed zones, it didn't even attempt to slow down. and lastly nearly completely missed a stop sign. I probably got dinged for my insurance and Tesla insurance because I had to hard brake. interstate driving is definitely not on the v12 stack and I continue to have v11 lane changing issues where it doesn't want to change lanes making me look like I'm drunk or something. FSD, you have some issues to work on.

I rarely speak up but this I just can't stay quiet on. multiple issues and Tesla needs to realize that people don't just drive in sanfrancisco and that some of us do travel on both interstates and two lane roads. It couldn't even maintain speed on a flat stretch of road or keep up with traffic.

We need more Tesla YouTubers / Tester Influencers from other areas of the country. I’ve noticed a lot of Teslas in N/W Indiana but very few are participating in these forums etc.

Drove it to Fry’s and back, which is only 5 miles round trip.
I hadn’t driven in the dark around town much with 12.4, 12.5 might be a little better on my neighborhood streets in that it goes a little faster. Very natural right turn at a spot where it took a little long to turn IMO (twisty mountain roads). Right turned into a left of two lanes instead of the right, changed lanes through a traffic light, still not doing the speed I set it to (I have 10% offset and often push it to 5 over posted). The one place where it started an unnecessary turn signal again in 12.4 it did not in 12.5 .
I couldn’t tell if there’s any new behavior with the lights as it was a short trip.
It did seem smooth and natural for the most part. I’ll do more driving on Thursday. So weird that I got the 12.4.3 and 12.5 builds!

I got 2024.20.10 today with FSD 12.5 and I’m impressed. 12.4.3 was worse about losing speed, but 12.5 still does it occasionally. It seems to not take a hard jerk of the wheel to take control anymore (only had to twice, but it seemed happier to give up control). Also, when I came out of a store tonight, it was very dark and pouring rain. At first it wouldn’t turn on FSD (understandably), but once I hit about 20mph, it turned on and drove better than I could in those visibility conditions! BTW, I have a 2023 MYLR.

Honestly, that makes the most sense if all the features weren't ready in time to be released at the same time. It just shows what the point releases should roll out.

Looks like after almost 200 downloads and a little less than 100 in the queue this is only going out to Model Y with HW4.

I received FSD 12.5 and it has resolved most of my complaints about 12.4.3. Accelerating and braking follow a much smoother curve and feel a lot more natural. 12.5 also will drive the speed limit or above like 12.4.1 did. Random lane changes are greatly reduced from 12.4.1 to follow navigation or to avoid obstacles like a delivery truck or parked car.

My main complaints with 12.5 are:
  • Lane changes to follow the navigation route happen too late, especially in rush hour. The release notes acknowledge that this will be addressed in later 12.5.x releases.
  • When the FSD accelerates from a stoplight or a turn it will speed up and then slow down noticeably. It would be much more natural to speed up to around the speed limit and then remain constant.
  • FSD slows down too much for my taste when turning, and sometimes when changing into a turn lane. I find myself pressing the accelerator to avoid angering cars behind me for taking too long to clear the turn.

I thought Tesla insurance would not ding you if you brake hard while FSD is enabled. Since you are supervising FSD, you are expected to take action immediately when FSD messes up.

I didn’t think so either however it struck me for hard breaking, which duh, cars were coming and I could tell it was not going to stop and would have caused a accident.

I have had a Y since late 2020, and bought it with FSD long before there was the first beta available. I went through safety testing and faithfully tried using whatever version of FSD came down the pike. And some of them were just plain awful and, worse, dangerous. Now I have 12.4.3 and it is actually fun to use, though still with a lot of quirks. NOW, I find out that going further (12.5 +) will take more powerful hardware that I have in my car. This is a huge disappointment. Early adopters seem to be left behind. I would have to buy a new car to get what was promised when I bought the one I have. Bad business!

I"m hoping that they do a hardware upgrade option like AI2-AI3 was. But at least you have an FSD version with a 4 in it. I have 12.3.6

Some more 12.5 observations from today's grocery runs- the whole 'smooth and natural' thing you're hearing from all the drivers in the videos you're watching is exactly right. Part of it is getting US used to FSDs being confident & capable.
Where I'm seeing room for improvement- some local HWY and main artery intersections here the car waits WAY too long to get over. For example- was in the left lane (of 3) when going to Costco which has an entrance off the HWY on the right and it just DID NOT get over until the last minute where it tried to cross 3 lanes of traffic like a lost tourist. I did report that. Strange because on 'surface' streets it doesn't do this.
One thing it did really well- on the way out of Costco the road was closed to the right which is how we usually go and how the mapping had us going. There were barricades up and the car wanted to turn right, then just like someone finally realizing 'I can't go that way' it re-routed and made a left, went around the block and was fine. Very good work. I suppose it could have reacted quicker to the barricades but still impressive!
